At first I thought I was going to build this up with a full Mavic SSC groupset, and this is one of the pictures I took while mocking up what it would look like.
Ultimately, I decided that I couldn't handle the fact that it isn't period correct (while the fabled Starfish groupset does, technically, have its roots in 1988, it didn't
see full scale production until the early 90s). Also, I didn't love how it looked with the frame.

So, what groupset did I decide to go with instead?
